Poddys Rambles On

Much of last week the skies were grey here in the UK, and over the weekend it was even worse. It looked like it was going to storm, or at least drizzle, but we saw hardly any rain until Monday afternoon. It was a holiday weekend here too, as well as in the USA, and so after 2 days of staying home, working on the garden, we decided to take a walk along the Hamble River, which is only a few miles away. It started to spit of rain after about half a mile, then came down as light drizzle as we reached The Rising Sun pub in Warsash, departure point for the British Commandos in June 1944. Had a great meal and some good beer, then walked back across the marshes, with the rain steadily getting heavier. It was a great walk, lots to see as always (boats, wildlife, high tide and low tide), but it's rather disappointing to get up and go to work this morning and see not a single cloud in the sky. This is a short story that I wrote, which was inspired by the recent natural disasters around the world, and the potential for the end of the world, at least as we know it, being closer than we might think. Life in these dangerous times is fragile, and it would not take too much to change everything that we know, as was seen just one year ago when a volcano erupted in Iceland, halting air traffic between the USA and Europe, as well as over most of Europe itself.
